Converged voice & data

Voice and data networking infrastructure have developed along separate evolutionary paths with completely separate infrastructure, networks, people, processes, languages… the list of inefficiencies is long.

Maintaining separate infrastructure not only adds unnecessary extra costs. It also inhibits streamlined business processes and makes its own adverse contribution to the environment.

Converged voice and data requires migration from traditional TDM telephony to IP telephony (IPT). But IPT can be deployed at the pace the organisation needs. And networking infrastructure may need to be upgraded but not necessarily by taking a ‘big bang’ approach.

Voice and data convergence is the first step towards IT and communications convergence… a necessary step towards optimisation in an applications-centric world where hardware eventually becomes a commodity.

Convergence acts as an enabler for integration of voice with other forms of communication. It facilitates integration of multi-media communications across the range of devices and into business applications. Service-oriented software voice applications eventually replace their hardware PBX ancestors.

BENEFITS

• Removes costs of maintaining separate networking infrastructure

• Allows organisations to take advantage of cost savings of SIP trunking

• Enabler towards unified communications and business process transformation
